Con grande entusiasmo si annuncia che la seconda uscita per Doomymood pesca un gruppo tanto oscuro e underground quanto rispettato da chi ha avuto l'occasione di avvicinarsi a esso: i latinensi Misantropus. Nessuno meglio dei diretti interessati può introdurci alla band, la parola pertanto passa al bassista Vincenzo Sanniti:
“Misantropus nasce nel 1998 da un'idea dei fratelli Sanniti, come gruppo dark-doom metal strumentale.
Le radici vanno cercate nella tradizione del dark sound italiano degli anni '80 e cioè nei dischi di Paul Chain dal 1984 (con il “Violet Theatre”) fino al capolavoro “Ash” del 1988; nella produzione dei pescaresi Requiem e nei lavori di Mario “The Black” Di Donato con la Minotauro Records. Inoltre aggiungerei “Bianco Zero” degli Arpia...
Misantropus è il primo gruppo dark-doom metal a suonare completamente strumentale, anche se in Italia nei primi anni '90 esistevano gli Hasses Warter (di Udine) che proponevano anche loro uno stile completamente strumentale: un incrocio di doom metal con venature thrash (come si nota nella loro demo-tape “Ausrotten!”, del 1994).
Sicuramente i Misantropus sono stati i primi a incidere un LP in vinile completamente strumentale di dark-doom metal (nel 2000).
Dopo un EP, sempre in vinile uscito nel 2003, ci evolviamo, non senza difficoltà, nella sostanza (abbracciando tematiche ecologiste e di salvaguardia della Natura – anche se l'interesse verso queste è presente pure nei due vinili...) e nella forma (passando dalla tipica estetica doom a una versione personale della stessa).
Il risultato del cambiamento spirituale-estetico sono le due ristampe (del 2007) su CD del primo vinile omonimo del 2000, che presentano entrambe una nuova veste grafica e nuovi titoli dei pezzi.
Tutti i lavori di Misantropus sono stati autoprodotti da Alessio Sanniti, tranne una delle due ristampe citate, che è una co-produzione con la piccola indie Cold Current (non più in attività).
Quando leggerete queste righe sarà in preparazione per una prossima uscita su CD il disco inedito del 2003 (anch'esso completamente strumentale), da cui estrapolammo l'EP con Francesca Luce alle phonetic vocals.
Il CD esce per la Doomymood Records di Pio Santobuono.
Il genere proposto è, appunto, un'evoluzione del dark-doom, ossia quello che ho definito green dark metal.”

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce that the second release on Doomymood will be the unreleased album of an obscure yet respected Italian band: Misantropus, from Latina. Here's an introduction to the band written by bass player Vincenzo Sanniti:
“Misantropus was born in 1998 from an idea of the Sanniti brothers, as an instrumental dark-doom metal band.
Deeply rooted in the italian dark sound tradition of the '80s, and influenced by artists and records such as Paul Chain (from 1984 with the “Violet Theatre” to the masterpiece “Ash”, 1988), Requiem, and Mario “The Black” Di Donato's works on Minotauro Records. And I would add “Bianco Zero” by Arpia...
Misantropus was the first band playing instrumental dark-doom metal, even if Hasses Warter (from Udine) back in the early '90s played a mix of doom and thrash metal in a peculiar instrumental style (as you can hear in the “Ausrotten!” demo-tape, 1994).
Rest assured that Misantropus was the first band to release an LP of instrumental dark-doom metal (in 2000).
After releasing an EP on vinyl in 2003, the band evolves, with some difficulties, in its substance (we embrace environment conservation ideas and practices – though such themes were there on the vinyl albums already...) and in its form (abandoning the classic doom aesthetics for a more personal version of it).
This spiritual & aesthetics mutation resolve itself into two re-releases (2007) on CD of the first self-titled LP originally released in 2000, in renewed graphics and song-titles.
All Misantropus' works were self-financed by Alessio Sanniti, except for one of those two re-releases on CD, which was a co-operation with the (now extinct) indie label Cold Current.
When you'll read these lines we'll be working on the upcoming release on CD of the unreleased 2003 album, from which we took the songs appeared on the EP with Francesca Luce on phonetic vocals.
The CD will be released by Pio Santobuono's Doomymood Records.
The genre is an evolution of the dark-doom style, namely what I call green dark metal.”
